Our network is inclusive & independent and open to all employees no matter what their religion, ethnic background, role or status in a Fire & Rescue Service including volunteers, advocates and authority members.
We want to provide a safe space for anyone to communicate who can or does identify with the term QUILTBAG or who is supportive of other human beings. We want to promote awareness and develop a better understanding of both sexual orientation and gender identity so that people can truly be themselves... after all, we know people and organisations perform better, and communities are safer and more resilient when differences are embraced.
The QUILTBAG network feels that the UK Fire and Rescue Service is respected & admired and as such should be a leading light in promoting inclusion including working with partners and so that the aspirations of so many UK organisations to reduce community risk, can be realised more effectively.
We don't believe in putting people in boxes and we know that true inclusion is some way off. We equally feel that we need to widen the discussion about sexual orientation and gender identity so we need to start somewhere. QUILTBAG includes;
- Gay/Gender queer
So for us the acronym QUILTBAG is a way to develop an understanding that the subjects of sexual orientation and gender identity are just so wide.
We have produced a Trans* Inclusion guidance document.
